چکیده

Here, we present the Proceedings of the I. International Conference of the Collaborative Research Center SFB 974 “Communication and Systems Relevance in Liver Damage and Regeneration” , held at Düsseldorf, Germany, November 15-16, 2013. The SFB 974 started its research work in 2012 following the SFB 575 “Experimental Hepatology” (2000 to 2011). The liver is long known for its high regenerative potential, and understanding of mechanisms underlying liver regeneration will be of great importance for future treatment of chronic liver diseases, which affect more than one million people in Germany. Lectures were given by internationally renowned scientists and by members of the Collaborative Research Center SFB 974. Topics comprised the role of stem cells in liver regeneration, systems biology of liver regeneration, and the interplay between liver damage, regeneration and cancer development. Most importantly, young scientists of the SFB 974 presented their data on posters and in short oral contributions. Competent help by the Scientific Coordinator, Dr. Nora Luniak, is gratefully acknowledged. We thank all authors who contributed to this publication. Düsseldorf, April 2014

Association between Lymphotoxin (LT-A) Gene Polymorphism and Susceptibility to Chronic Hepatitis C Infection in Iranian Patients

Background & Aims: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a leading cause of chronic liver disease worldwide. The clearance of the HCV is dependent on cytokines control led by genetic. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of Lymphotoxin (LT-A) polymorphism at +252 in susceptibility to chronic hepatitis C. Methods: In this case-control study, 120 individuals infected by HCV and ...

Coordination between NF- B family members p50 and p52 is essential for mediating LT R signals in the development and organization of secondary lymphoid tissues

Recent studies revealed that the lymphotoxin/lymphotoxin beta receptor (LT)/ LT R system activates the noncanonical nuclear factor– B (NFB) signaling pathway involving I kappa B kinase 1/I kappa B kinase (IKK1/IKK ) and NFB–inducing kinase (NIK) to direct processing of the nf b2 protein p100 to yield RelB:p52 complexes. Despite the biochemical evidence, LT-, RelB-, p52-deficient mice show discr...

Cytokine Gene Polymorphism in BCG Lymphadenopathy

Background: Tumor necrosis factor-beta or lymphotoxin-alpha (LT-α), IL-4 and IL-10 are determining factors in immunity against BCG.  Allelic polymorphisms in the regulatory regions of their genes affect the rate of cytokine production and therefore, the host’s ability in BCG containment. Objective: To study the prevalence of –590 (C/T) and –592 (C/A) allelic distribution of IL-4 and IL-10 promo...

The role of the lymphotoxin-β receptor (LTβR) in hepatocyte-mediated liver regeneration

Background The lymphotoxin beta receptor (LTbR) is a prototypic member of the TNF/TNFR superfamily and has diverse functions in regulating immune responses against pathogens, in organogenesis and maintenance of structural integrity of secondary lymphoid tissues [1]. Mice deficient in LTbR (LTbR) show impaired resistance to intracellular pathogens and defects in peripheral lymphoid tissues [2,3]...

The effect of ketamine on NMDA receptor-mediated LTP depends on ketamine effects on non-NMDA-mediated synaptic transmission in CA1 area of rat hippocampal slices

It has been reported that ketamine as an uncompetitive N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist has also non-NMDA receptor antagonist properties. We recently found that ketamine (20 ?M) affected differently induction of NMDA receptor-mediated long-term potentiation (LTP) when administered 30 min prior to tetanic Primed-Bursts (PBs) stimulation. On the other hand, ketamine also influenced...
